CAMPAIGN HAS ENDED
Turning 30 is supposed to be a big deal. Help me make it one.
So here's the deal: I turn 30 on Thursday. People tell me it's a big deal. I've never been one to make a big deal out of my birthday, but I've been learning that rituals and celebrations are an important part of being human, so I figured I'd try to do something to mark the day.
I certainly never imagined I'd cross into this new decade in the middle of a global pandemic. It's a strange time, but it's given me time with family and friends I usually only get to see once a year. It's also introduced me to a new hobby: cycling.
Getting on a bike has given me a way to see this city with fresh eyes, to reconnect with old friends, to cope with living in between timezones and going to bed when most people around me are just waking up... It's given me a much-needed sense of freedom and control in a world that, more than ever, feels like it's spinning out of control.
I've been wanting to try and cycle 100km and figured turning 30 would be a good occasion to try it. When I chanced upon Habitat for Humanity's campaign, the deal was sealed.

As of Thursday, I will have enjoyed 30 years of never having to worry about having a roof over my head.
Even in the midst of this crazy pandemic, what I will remember is the privilege of being able to come home. This privilege that I so often take for granted is something many others only dream about.
The funds raised through this campaign will go towards building homes in Batam, just over an hour away from Singapore. We're mostly past birthday gifts at this point, but if you would, I'd be overjoyed if you'd partner with me to help give some families a gift that I hope will keep on giving.
Donating is really simple and secure, and the money will directly go to Habitat for Humanity Singapore. Any amount helps! Really. Thanks for considering a donation, and thank you for your friendship -- in some way or another, your friendship has been a safe home for me.
